My open letter to Anxiety

I've been meaning to write to you for the last few weeks and today, finally, I had to!

Please don't mind if I come straight to the gut of the reason - You dropped in a bit too often in the last few weeks! Either just to irritate me or to frustrate the other two who live with me.

Every time, ok - most times, I saw you approach, rather intrepidly, driving-in in that massive luxury four wheel that you've acquired off late, in matt finish with the purr, parking on the side-lanes, within the rules so that the alert Singapore traffic cops can't send home a ticket!

Such well placed civic sense and no social sense? Arriving unannounced, without a cue?! Did you just stop adapting to this day that we live in? Do you not know that today we book time to connect - even our moms book time to talk, call and visit us?! Oh, you may not 'coz you must still arrive at your Mom's doorstep without even ringing the bell?! OR...don't tell me!! you still live with your Mom in that small house on Feary Avenue!😳

But then don't think oddly of us that we have come such a long way in our methods - many fabulous ways have emerged out of this really cool state of only appointed-meetings. The one you MUST get familiar with is the social media. Now don't gimme that look! This is the net-that-works, where you can just leave messages (happy, ecstatic, on the precipice variety) for others to  see.  We call it 'posting' and  it is meant for no one in particular but for everyone to see. You might not understand it but if you ever did, you would know how convenient these postings are! Then there's this other one called WhatsApp (you may call it what's-up for your pea-brained convenience) where you can even hide whether you are 'in station' or not - and believe you me, it still allows you to send and see messages. Can you imagine the bonus! You can be in touch without someone, anyone knowing where you are at that moment - just awesome! Simply gives me goosebumps wishing we had this stuff around during college!

Ok I digressed a lot - but coming back to  the point of your recent visit  - you really tried my patience and goodness! I mean I know you might have assumed some endless reserve of all that since I told you of my present vocation - but even Vishwamitra erred!

I would still remain stoic and deal with you but your first surprise entry through the skylight landing hard on my hubby's head, was just too much, too loud. He's tall, strong, sturdier more recently with all the detox, yoga and running intervention and your irrational arrival almost toppled him and chased all the yogic calmness out of the same skylight! Yes you left it half ajar, you Idiot!

And since then it has been a series of aberrations - even the 7-yr old amongst us got hit with your unannounced intrusions. Happy in his world of soccer and best friends, you managed to deliver him a big jolt! Sometimes entering through the front door but most often unconventionally- through the most unexplored routes. All frustrating, at times numbing, even after we got used to expecting you around.

You've had a field day (weeks), you kept us busy guessing and predicting endlessly and now I suppose you are sated as I can no more feel your presence around here. Just last evening I turned around half expecting you - couldn't sense you. Were you there? I wonder!

Well, if you were, let me burst your bubble : I think we are over the hump, I think we are done with these unlicensed visits and winded conversations with you! The automated security sensor system that we acquired from that Fortune 500 brand nonchalance  (at a reasonable price) has installed itself. You must have heard of the parent company que sera sera. We have patronized them ever since, every time we've had to uproot an old system, replaced, upgraded or migrated to a new. We know them and their products, they now know us, and this time they sweetened the deal with some super throw-ins ( cash rewards, return-to-roots and a Social package to reconnect with old friends & locales (no not Social media, you moron!!)

So here we are - free from you, on the other side of your mocking appearances - ready to roll in our nonchalance by que sera, sera!
